FOR 8th GRADERS
UNITED STATES HISTORY
For U.S. History Class, you have one assignment. We are going to our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. You can see the National Mall and some of the amazing sites we visited on the picture and map above. As you look at the picture and map, tell me in at least 100 words how you feel about Washington, D.C. as a place we are going. Keep in mind that we will go to many different types of places when we are in D.C. We will go to Gettysburg - a battlefield where so many died fighting for our country and for freedom. We will go to Ford's Theatre - both to see where our great President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and to see a musical. We will go to many monuments and memorials, including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the MLK Jr Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and Vietnam Wall, and the Korean Memorial. We will take a river cruise down the Potomac to Mt. Vernon, George Washington's house. We will go to a Washington Nationals baseball game... the 2019 World Champions. We will visit the U.S. Capitol. We will take pictures outside the White House, where so many great Presidents have lived.
When we get back, we will compare how you feel at that time as compared to how you felt before you were able to visit it with our class. What does our country and our history mean to you?
Turn your work in in Google Classroom on our 8th Grade U.S. History Page. (I invited you to this class, or you can get to it by using your school g-mail account and putting in this code: wvo096. You are looking for the U.S. History Assignment for February 13, due 5 school days later on February 21.)
Don't forget to include your name on the paper before you submit your answer. Count your words if you do not think you have at least 100 words.
