6th Grade History - February 1, 2019
Absent Work for those unable to attend today
Today we took our Chapter 14 test. It is your job to come to me on Monday to take this test so it does not remain an incomplete. We hope and pray that all of you are able to recover the the colds going around as well as make it safely to school on Monday! Have a GREAT weekend, stay safe, and get well!
Your assignment for today:
Today we being the month of February, in which we celebrate African American History - namely Black History Month. It wasn't always this way in America. From the 1700-1800's, we had the terrible institution of slavery, which started well before we were a nation, but continued almost 90 years into our existence. Thankfully, though not without a terrible war, we were able to rid our nation of this evil. One reason we study history is to not repeat such mistakes. Even so, we have a terrible institution in our country today, where not all Americans are equal. Unborn babies have no rights, and can be killed for any reason.
As we begin February and celebrate African American month, and as we study the World Wars and Human rights in History, your assignment is to write a ONE-PAGE essay on this whole topic. You can discuss ANYTHING YOU WANT related to this. Your thoughts, ideas, feelings, questions, concerns, and solutions. This means you have freedom to write what you want, as long as it's on the topic. You can write about your thoughts and feelings about the past and/or the present. Here are some questions that might get you thinking and help you: How we as Christians, and Americans, should, can, and do stand up for other people in the world. How are ways that we as a COUNTRY can protect humans (and end abortion?), how can YOU protect fellow humans (friends, people that come from different backgrounds or cultures than you, or even the unborn). This is a very serious topic, but you are not too young to think about it.
Do this on a sheet of lined paper. You may write in ink or pencil. Fill the whole page, from blue line to edge. Neatness and effort count! Put your name, date, subject, and classroom grade number on it. This is due Monday!
