MR. WHIRRETT'S CLASSES
FOR 8th GRADERS
SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK PREPOSITIONS ASSIGNMENT
FROM MR. WHIRRETT
Watch this video from Schoolhouse Rock about Prepositions. Then do the following on a sheet of paper (to turn in when you get back to school). First, put your name, date, and subject on the paper. Then do these two things: 1) Make a definition of a preposition IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Then 2) make a list of every preposition you can think of. If you list more than 30, you get an "A"... more than 25, a "B"... and more than 20, a "C". You may use your textbook or the internet to find prepositions... but first try to come up with as many as you can on your own!
UNITED STATES HISTORY
On Sunday, May 3rd, 2020, at approximately 8:00 p.m., we are going to start here, at 1125 Barr Street... the address of your school, St. Paul's Lutheran... and load up on a Motor Coach. It will be our "traveling home" for the next five days! (Of course, we will take breaks from our "home" at the hotel for three nights!)
When you wake up, you will be in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the site of some of one of the bloodiest battles in World History. The amazing things here - the courage and bravery of those men - has had a lasting impact on our nation's history... and on all of us.
...and we are going to end up in Washington, D.C. on Monday afternoon, May 6th. The red marker shows where the White House is, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest.
For History Class, you have two short assignments. First, click on the button below to open Google Maps. Use the address bar at the top left to enter "Gettysburg". After you enter it, the box will change slightly. Click where it says "Directions". Put in St. Paul's address (see above the first map if you have forgotten the address of St. Paul's.) Send your answer to me using the contact form below telling me how many miles it is from St. Paul's to Gettysburg, and how many hours and minutes it should take us to get there when driving. After you have finished this, go on to the second assignment.
Click on the Button Below to watch the Battle of Little Round Top at Gettysburg (1863)
After watching this short video on The Battle of Little Round Top, write a 1-2 paragraph
(at least 100 words) description of what YOU thought was most incredible about that battle. If you need to see more... go to YouTube and watch a little more about what happens at that part of the Battle of Gettysburg. There are more "parts" and "segments" to that Battle at Little Round Top.
