E-Learning Day: Wednesday, February 20
6th-8th Grade
The General Who Became our President
To Watch: Watch the 23 minute Liberty Kids cartoon on GENERAL Washington Taking Command. There are a number of "commercials" and "ads". Press "skip" as soon as you can on each of these.
As we celebrated President's Day this week and are thankful for our free country and our system where we elect our leaders, including our President, watch this cartoon from BEFORE we ever had a President... thinking forward to WHEN this general, General George Washington, commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, would be become President. After you watch it I want you to write an essay on what traits (qualities) you believe George Washington had that made him a good President.... a President so good that every President since has looked back to him to help make tough decisions.
How to write and how much to write: First of all: Do NOT answer the questions about George Washington in a numbered list. Instead, you will write two paragraphs. But, if you are doing this on paper, first you WILL START WITH A LIST FOR THESE THREE THINGS: Put 1) Your Name, 2) The Date, 3) Your Classroom grade. If you are doing this on the ONLINE FORM BELOW, you will fill in the boxes first, then start your paragraphs.
In paragraph form (at least 2 paragraphs), answer the blue and red questions below. Do this in essay form like you do on tests. The answers to the red questions do not have to be in that order, just make sure to include them in your second paragraph somehow. The FIRST paragraph should be a SUMMARY of the show (blue question). The SECOND paragraph should answer the other questions (red questions). Make sure your paragraphs are AT LEAST four sentences long EACH (at least 8 sentences total) to "pass." Make your answer AT LEAST 10 total sentences to get an "A" on this assignment.
How to turn in: Submit your answer in the form below. Remember to include your 1) NAME, 2) TODAY'S DATE (February 20), and 3) YOUR CLASSROOM GRADE as the first three answers if you do it on paper. 8th Graders, this will count as a history grade and an English Grade. (Then keep studying your speeches!) 6th and 7th Graders, this is a history grade only. All of you who do this TODAY and submit it... or anyone who writes it out on paper WITH NAME, DATE 2-20-19, GRADE LEVEL, and submits it by 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning... will receive extra credit.
IN YOUR FIRST PARAGRAPH:
1. Write a summary of what happened in the video. (At least four sentences to pass, but I recommend more than that to be able to summarize what happened in the 23 minute video!)
THEN, in the next paragraph, answer the following:
2. What made George Washington a good leader (even before he was President)?
3. What do you think made George Washington a good President... maybe our best ever?
4. What qualities do you think it takes to make a leader?
