The 8th Grade Daily Schedule
Our classes are listed below in order of how we do them on a regular day of school. After the class schedule, begin your work by either clicking on one of the following buttons for Miss McWilliams or Mr. Marinko's class (3rd Quarter)... or by continuing on below to get to Mr. Whirrett's assignments for that day. You may do your work in any order on an "E-Learning Day," but just make sure you do all of the tasks assigned for that day. Make sure you also ask Mr. Mezger and Mrs. Frerking what your assignments are for this E-learning Day. (I'm sure they told you, but they did not (yet?) give me a link to add those here.
8:55 Religion (If it's 3rd Quarter, Click on Mr. Marinko's Button below!)
9:25 Math
10:55 Science
11:40 English Language Arts & Literature
12:40 Lunch
1:15 U.S. History
Elective Classes: P.E./Music/Choir/Art

U.S. History
Watch the following three videos with portions of some of our leaders greatest speeches. The first one is Martin Luther King Jr.s "I have a Dream" speech. The second one is President Ronald Reagans "Tear Down this Wall" speech where he is asking the Soviet President to tear down the wall trapping people in East Berlin in Communism. The third one (two videos to watch) is the WHOLE Gettysburg Address, but it is very short. Then tell me... do YOU agree that these were great speeches, based on the little segments you have seen?
You have given speeches before... if not this year, last year. And you will probably give another one soon! You have studied U.S. History, and have read and understood the importance of The Gettysburg Address (or soon will!). You will visit Washington, D.C. and stand on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a great speech... and you will see his monument. Tell me... WHAT makes these speeches great? What makes ANY speech great?

"The time is always right to do what is right." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" - President Ronald Wilson Reagan
Go to the U.S. History 8th Grade Google Page (Use code wvo096) and answer these questions on the Google Doc.
1. Which of these three speeches would you consider to be “Great” speeches? (List which ones.)
2. What makes a speech “great”? List what makes each of these speeches great. (You don’t have to list each separately, but you may if you want. If they share common qualities that make a speech great, write about those things.)
3. What makes ANY speech great? (One idea or hint, what should the speech DO for the people listening? What should the speech do for HISTORY… or for the FUTURE? What makes a speech last throughout time?)
